Project Rolling Freedom!
Tiny Rolling Homes and Minimalist Ideals.

Remove The Blocks!

Project Rolling Freedom™  has begun!  Let me tell you a little about it.

Project Rolling Freedom™ will be based in Idaho Falls.  We will build tiny homes (140sqft or less) on utility trailers out of reclaimed, recycled and donated materials.  Project Rolling Freedom™ will help people help themselves by teaching them how to build their own  tiny home.  These homes under the minimum square footage allowed by standard building codes but lets face it: how much space does a person really need?  It was our own need to prove our success with stuff and huge spaces that got us into the mess that we are in now.  So to ensure that it doesn’t happen again, we need to re-evaluate what is importatn in our lives.  Do we value people or things more?

My inspiration for this project came from the tiny house movement of course.  I am most inspired by a woman named Dee Williams.  She’s amazing!  Check out her video below.

My other inspiration came from a company called The Phoenix Commotion.  Check out their video below.

  1. It’s exciting to see you starting a project like this. I added you to my blogroll on Tiny House Design.

The only thing I don’t agree with in your introduction is the reason you mention for the current state of the economy and housing. You said:

“It was the banking and home building industries that got us into the mess that we’re in right now so to ensure that it doesn’t happen again…”

I think it’s much simpler than that and that it has been building for over 50 years so. It just looks like they are to blame. The truth is we’re all to blame, IMHO.

I think the reality is that everyone’s desire to feel successful and our compulsion to accumulate of visible wealth is the culprit. Houses, mortgages, and debt have been getting bigger and bigger because people want to feel good about themselves. There is an excellent explanation of our societal conditioning in The Story of Stuff.

The problem of course is that freedom is sold when you go into debt. Stuff doesn’t bring you happiness. Freedom brings happiness.

    mort•gage (mor´-gij)
    n. from Old French morgage, mort gage, literally “death pledge”

    I found that at: http://www.chelseagreen.com/bookstore/item/mortgage_free_second_edition:paperback

Freedom should be the American Dream… shoot it should be the Dream of Humanity. Consumption itself inhibits freedom for the consumer. It can free those who profit from the consumption, but at a terrible cost.

I admire you taking on this challenge… you’re definitely right-on with the solution. Less is more, more freedom. I’m looking forward to watching your progress.

    • Michael,
Thank you so much for posting!
Also, thank you for correcting me on what is caused our current problems. I was stuck in the “blame somebody else” mindset. I will also be linking to “The Story of Stuff” here pretty soon.
      Thanks!
